Journal W. Riemer 1950 21 May Calif.: Sonoma Co. to be helpful and lake looks good for Triturus. Caretaker says both "orange" [Triturus] and "black" [granulosus] present. Rapidly inspected Sonoma Creek along road adjacent to Creek 5 of Kenwood. Apparently this is public domain and though no Triturus seen today the stream looks good for the animal. This stream may be used for study area for T. granulosus if the population seems to be dense enough next spring. Triturus 25 May Calif.: Contra Costa Co. Visited both study areas to determine activities of adults and development of eggs. At Lafayette Reservoir 0930-1045. Clear, sunny, warm. No adult Triturus under boards (too dry except in immediate vicinity of water) and none in water in vicinity of study area. Careful search made along shore. However larvae present along shore in shallow area (6" deep). Apparently two size groups present: 2 cm long in total length - 4-5 individuals, 3½ cm long in total length - 1 (?) individual. Air 15°C, water at shore 19°C. Many adults present in water along face of dam. See species account. At Pinchurst 1115-1245 hrs. Saw Triturus
