17 May Calif.: Contra Costa Co. During afternoon
visited both study areas to determine at
what stage of development Triturus populations
were. This is first visit since middle
of February. At Lafayette Reservoir between
1400-1445 hrs. No Triturus present under
boards (too dry except under those near
water's edge) and none seen in water.
Tow bugs very abundant under boards.
Small pool, isolated from lake where

short areas of rapid flow. Most of deep
pools present last year now filled in
and only three deep pools remain.
These pools at 103.2-2.2, 103.0-5.4, 104.9-5.3.
Adult Triturus (3) found only about the first
pool listed. Here also were the only egg
clusters seen. 15 counted in quick search.
Two or more catfish (?) (18" lab)
seen in last
pool listed. Under boards found 2
Ensotria, one very young, one subadult.
About 20 Batrachoseps counted. Two Triturus,
