1 May Mexico: Guerrero: 3 mi. W O miltena, 8200 ft.
Guard and cook today. Put up two rats taken
in trap line and two garter snakes taken
by Pitetha in areas below camp. I found
and [illegible] in camp while looking for a mouse
skull I accidentally tossed out. Just before
dark Koford and I reset our joint trap line
a short distance downstream and partly
a short distance up slope from original.
Again 25 specials, 3 Schmuglers, 1 steel.
After dark I found one more of the
Batrochrops-like salamanders in a rotten
log and together we found five amurs
in and near stream, of two species.
2 May In morning before leaving this locality I put up
a rat taken in our new trap line and also
a very young Gerhornotus taken in camp
area. These Gerhornotus are very reminiscent of
coruleus of the Bay Area. About noon drove to
Chilpancingo taking two new Sceloporus near
O miltena and a still different salamander near
Chilpancingo. Then continued on to Acapulco
for night. On way to coast captured an Oxybelis
on the road. Between Chilpancingo and
Acapulco one passes through arid forest and thorn
scrub - much like chapparal (very brown and
dry at this season). Acapulco itself appears much
like Hermosa Beach or Newport in So. Calif.
