27 Apr. Mexico; Guerrero: 3 mi., W. O. miltime, 8200 ft.
Set out line of 10 traps (speciales) and one Schugler
on dry ridge in pine-oak open forest near camp.
Much slash waste about.
28 Apr. At base of large pine caught a Peromyscus
in trap line. Caught a Barissa? lizard in
camp tent. Put up a couple of birds from
Koford's catch. Guard and cook today. In
afternoon went to canyon with small stream
with Koford to set line of 25 snap traps, 4
Schugler's and two steel. On way took a
second Barissa(?), a Gerrhonotus and
in the trap line area two species of amaran.
On return found 3 small Batrachoseps-like
salamanders in a rotten log.
29 Apr. Very good catch in trap line. Eight animals -
7 large mice and 1 shrew. All put up by
Koford. On return to camp in morning from
trap line shot several birds, as noted in
catalogue, along road. Pitelka took a
Gerrhonotus near camp.
30 Apr. Went 5-ward around hill on which camped
into a dry open pine forest area. Took
a Cuniculus under bank of stump and
several Echolopous on dogs when
reentering the denser mixed forest area.
Put up one of rats from trap line. Catch
today of two shrews and three rats. I put
