10 Apr. Mexico: Chiapas: 28 mi. ESE Comitan, 4900 ft., San Jose.
Did however shoot a reddish egret and noted
presence of a shore bird about size of willot.
Beyond San Jose in region of limestone
oil crops, bracken fern and many fallen
trees shot or noosed two species of Sceloporus
and noted a third large sort, took a species
of Anolis and on return found a Thamnophis
killed by natives on road. At some
distance beyond San Jose came upon lake
of clear, amazingly blue water. Shores
barren except for small rocks and
sandy-muddy beaches. Saw no shore
birds. On a grassy flat near lake noted
a Sceloporus did not successful in taking
it on species remains a mystery. Noted
only that it had two very light (cream)
stripes longitudinally, on brown dorsum.
Took differently patterned R. pipiens under
another piece of board. On returning
home noted presence of orange-throated species
of Sceloporus on pile of cut wood very near
Tierra Blanca. This is species objective
of trip to vicinity San Jose. Also near
pool where ranids and hybrid taken found
DOR Buefo or Scaphiopus in roadway.
Beyond San Jose pine woods become mixed
woods of pine and broadleaves and terrain
