2 Apr. Mexico: Chiapas: 6 mi. SE San Cristobal, 7300 ft.
grassy patch at section where the flow,
perhaps a foot wide, traverses a grassy
meadow-like area. There is also a section
where it flows with a series of miniature
waterfalls and rapids through a wooded
area. Such areas are perhaps big enough to
support special riparian species. Rana
pipiens noted throughout stream length
except in wooded area. Tadpoles present
even here however.
3 Apr. Camp guard and cook today. In early morning
shot a tanager and a flycatcher and a
warbler in vicinity of camp. Put up speci-
mens until late afternoon when I shot in
camp vicinity a stellar jay and a another
species of warbler. Also about midday caught
a Cinneces in camp area. After dark
returned to boggy portion of stream and
by flashlight was able to find only Rana
pipiens. In vicinity of spring however where
trees are present I found more pipiens but
also a Hyla. Took sample of tadpoles present
in spring. Weather today clear, warm and
sunny. Gusts of wind occasionally. Evening
clear starry and cold.
4 Apr. Weather: warm, sunny. Returned in morn-
