30 Mar. Mexico: Chiapas: 6 mi. SE San Cristobal, 7300 ft.
Dirt found only one salamander which I take to be the same species as those taken in rotten logs and under bark on previous days. In early afternoon took two Bolanophrya formicivora
on ridge near where bromeliads were. Both perched in open trees. A jay's nest located nearby in broadleaf shrub about 20 ft. off ground. Jays, Aphelocoma unicolor, at first scolded considerably but later left and did not return for over an hour when area deserted.
They had not moved for off however since a scolding note uttered with each shot I made at other birds. Lower down canyon in dense growth took a robin, Turdus rufitorques
and a Ergaticus versicolor, warbler. In late afternoon in open scrub took a Dendroica townsendi, warbler. Weather until about 0930 heavily overcast, then until about 1600 sunny but with many clouds racing overhead so that little sun got through for more than a minute at a time. Wind and little sprinkles and drizzles after 1600 well into night.
Winds from NE.
31 Mar. Camp cook and guard today, did no shooting spent day putting up specimens taken yesterday. Weather cold but mostly clear after continuous light rains during night.
