26 Mar. Mexico; Chiapas: 6 mi. SE San Cristobal, 7300 ft.
fallen log and several dead stumps took
10 Bolitoglossa salamanders and one
Scoloporus. Also took a couple of warblers.
Weather clear sunny and warm in morning;
same in afternoon except sun occasionally
obscured by cloud mass. Very comfortable weather.
Pulled down and examined about six small
(1 ft. in dia.) bromeliads. All contained
some water and various insects but no
vertebrates. Under piece of bark on ground
found one small snake in afternoon. Hford
in evening took 2 Ranas and 4 Hylids from
spring where we get our water. Spring
few feet from dirt road passing thru area.
27 Mar. Morning cold and slightly overcast before 0900.
During early hours took a pepper shrike near
camp. After warmed up took 2 kinds of
fly catchers and a trogon. Rest of morning,
all afternoon and evening spent putting
up yesterday's and today's catch. Took
one Anolis in camp.
28 Mar. Camp guard and cook today. In morning,
early, shot quince and warbler in camp. In
evening at dusk shot one bat (Eptesicus?)
on wing over small forest clearing. Many
bats present. Later shot one over water with
aid of flashlight at spring. Ranas and Hylas
