22 Mar. Mexico: Distrito Federal: Drove into Mexico
City during morning and will stay in
auto court tonight taking care of business
matters during afternoon. Comments: the
highway between Drapuato and Mexico City
is less good than highway N of Drapuato.
Heavy traffic has broken it considerably.
Weather is still splendid. Tramler informed us
yesterday that in Drapuato it never gets hotter
than it was yesterday about 75-80° F and never
cold enough to require heating. Drapuato is
center of strawberry culture and fruit available
throughout year.
23 Mar. Mexico: Oaxaca: Drove from Mexico City
to point several miles NW Oaxaca de
Juarez where camped for night. Road not
as good as that N of Mexico City but still
good for 35-40 mph. Between Mexico
City and Puebla one climbs to about 10,100 ft.
into dense pine forest. Heavy frost on
ground. Much snow on both Popocatepetl
and Ixtaccihuatl
24 Mar. Mexico: Chiapas Drove all day to reach
point several miles W of Tuxtla Gutierrez
to camp for night. Vegetation became
truly tropical on nearing Tehuantepes,
Papaya, mango and coconut palms common.
Some forest plants now blooming or starting
