W. Riemer 1956 Journal 13 Mar. Texas: Hudspeth Co., vicinity Eagle Mts. Noted only few small groups of creosote bush, Vegetation very open and soil rocky. Grass present in some spots, but dry. Noted the following birds. Curve-billed thrasher, Brewer's sparrow, shrike, a hawk (Harris's?), mourning dove, a wren, woodpeckers, and "black-chinned" desert sparrows, the last very common. The first three species taken. Also present and taken by Hoford were sparrow hawk, rock wrens and a screech owl heard in evening. Reptiles were surprisingly scarce considering fairly warm morning. Seen and taken were one Sceloporus undulatus and a Cnemidophorus. Also saw what I took to be young Holbrookia(?). Afternoon spent in putting up skins. In evening returned to camp in wash 10 mi. W Eagle Peak. Poor-wills on road after dark on fans but none seen lower down near wash. Noted that finches and woodpeckers and thrashers and wrens occurred in pairs. Desert sparrows in flocks. 14 Mar. Texas: Hudspeth Co., 10 mi. W Eagle Peak Night cold and sun slow to emerge from behind dawn clouds. Birds also slow to awaken probably as consequence of lack of full sun. Within two hours after dawn noted sage thrashers, mocking birds, robins, a hawk and
