13 Mar. Texas: Hudspeth Co., vicinity Eagle Mts.
Noted only few small groups of creosote bush,
Vegetation very open and soil rocky. Grass
present in some spots, but dry. Noted the
following birds. Curve-billed thrasher, Brewer's

desert sparrows, the last very common. The
first three species taken. Also present and
taken by Hoford were sparrow hawk, rock
wrens and a screech owl heard in evening.
Reptiles were surprisingly scarce considering
fairly warm morning. Seen and taken
were one Sceloporus undulatus and a
Cnemidophorus. Also saw what I took to
be young Holbrookia(?). Afternoon spent in putting
up skins. In evening returned to camp in
wash 10 mi. W Eagle Peak. Poor-wills on road
after dark on fans but none seen lower
down near wash. Noted that finches and
woodpeckers and thrashers and wrens occurred in
pairs. Desert sparrows in flocks.
