W. Riemer 1950 Journal 25-28 Feb. Enroute to Texas: El Paso Co., El Paso Party consisting of F. Pittka, C. Koford and myself left Berkeley about 0830 hrs. Objective: Southern Mexico, for general collecting with emphasis on birds. Stopped first night at home of S. Payton, Fillmore, in Ventura Co., Calif. Again driving all day, stopped second night in Gila Band, Ariz. Heavy rainstorm during evening between Yuma and Gila Band. Light rain and overcast over So. Calif. Third day continued to Tucson - had short visit with Dr. J. Marshall - and continued to Las Cruces, Doña Ana Co., N.M. for evening's stop. Arrived in El Paso on morning of fourth day. 2 Mar. New Mexico, Otero Co., Cloudcroft 8500 ft± Late on the first of March drove to Sacramento Mts and camped for night short ways above tunnel on Cloudcroft road. This side trip a product of red tape delays at border. In early morning of 2nd of March light snow (1 in. approx.) fell over mountains even below pino-juniper level. About 10-1100 hrs, two (a pair) of juncoes taken at Cloudcroft. About 1 in. of snow on ground, foggy, more snow falling just after birds taken. Douglas fir and yellow pine at Cloudcroft.
