Animals attempt in such situations to work way under tangle of grass at shore. Amplexing pairs much less wary than single animals and easily approached. When alarmed capable of high speed escape. Is this a coordinated effort or does ?? do all the work? Vent of separated ?? extremely enlarged and swollen and flaccid to extent that when animal inverted lips (?) of cloaca hung downward over tail almost to dorsal fin. A number of animals removed from this pool as a sample of torrums in this county during February. Breeding development and food contents to be noted. No amplexing seen in lake proper but many animals seen coming to surface for out or swimming near shore. How far out do these animals go? to what depth of water. Found adult of which apparently had become entangled with grass (?) on lake bottom and strangled to death. Body very much bleached. Also captured a subadult lacking almost all melanin. Specimen to be
