24 Dec. Calif.: Contra Costa Co. Reservoir marked
3 new animals, 2 adult, 1 juvenile Triturus.
Temp. under Board A 21 8°C - no animals
present; under cover # 3, 2 animals found,
11°C. Area checked in ¾ hr. - 1030-1115 hrs.
At Pinchurst took single juvenile Triturus.
Batrachoseps literally under every piece of cover,
4 Ensatina noted. 1245 hrs., water ≈ 6°C,
air 8°C. 1200-1330 hrs spent in area.
Stream clear and flowing slowly.
31 Dec Calif.: Contra Costa Co. At Lafayette Reservoir 0945-
1130 hrs. On arrival low heavy fog over
entire area. Soon dispelled by sun. At
1000 hrs. air temp. 6°C, water 9.4°C.
A new radius of boards started, 6 new
animals marked. 1 recapture. Several
Batrachoseps noted. New grass now 4-5"
high. Thistles just getting first true leaves
in roadways and cleared areas. At
Pinchurst 1215-1330 hrs. 1245 hrs. air
temp. 6.6°C, water 5.2°C. Clear, sunny, cold.
Stream clear, flowing slowly. 1 Triturus
recapture # 85. Two Ensatina noted.
Batrachoseps not abundant.
14 Jan. Calif.: Contra Costa Co. Visited both study areas:
1020-1050 at Lafayette Reservoir. At 1040 hrs.
air 7.6°C, water 9.2°C. Weather intermittently
sunny. Clear. High thin clouds. Cold.
