8 Dec. Calif.: Santa Clara Co. several T. torosus
young and adult taken on road, as well as
Bufo boreas young. This a very beautiful
spot an may prove to be good collecting
ground. Reservoir level extremely low.
Might Triturus be breeding here? Only
torosus found today. Where do grandosus
live? Returned home via U.S. 101
and 101 Bypass starting at 1730.
10 Dec. Calif.: Contra Costa Co. Routine check of
two study areas made today. 1145-1230
hrs at Lafayette Reservoir. No Triturus
seen, although several (about 6-8) seen
crushed on dirt road leading from buy to
top of dam. All dried, are animals
probably killed during rain Wed. and
Thur. (7-8 Dec). Single Batrachoseps
seen under cover #3. Weather, sunny,
clear, cool. Quiet water at shore
16.4°C. 1300-1400 hrs at Pinchurst.
No Triturus. 12 Batrachoseps, 7 Ensatinia.
1340 hrs; air 8.0°C, water 7.2°C.
Leaves now all fallen; blanket still
thick on ground. Several dead
Triturus noted on roadway.
