24 Sept. Calif., Contra Costa Co., Pinchurst mile
downstream from point 106.7-5.8
examined for water. Pools present
in that area near weather station
— 1.2-3.4, 2.3-6.1 to 2.9-5.7 rather
continuously, and 3.4-6.3. No larvae
seen in any of these and all much
reduced from condition last week.
The only other water present was
outside of study area at spot where
large drainage pipes empty into
stream tributary near road fork.
Pool here at present about 5 x 8 ft.
by 1 ft. deep. Larvae of Triturus
present in fair numbers and
single Rana boylii seen. For
measurements of larvae see species
account. Temp. of air 15.2°C, water
12.9°C. Weather clear and warm.
During past week weather unusually
hot and dry. During examination of
stream bed marked one juvenile
Triturus outside of study area. Hours
0930-1130 spent in area.

I guess that permanence of water
here may have different effect on larvae
than transitory supply at Pinchurst
