W. Reina 1949 Journal 24 Sept. Calif., Contra Costa Co., Pinchurst mile downstream from point 106.7-5.8 examined for water. Pools present in that area near weather station — 1.2-3.4, 2.3-6.1 to 2.9-5.7 rather continuously, and 3.4-6.3. No larvae seen in any of these and all much reduced from condition last week. The only other water present was outside of study area at spot where large drainage pipes empty into stream tributary near road fork. Pool here at present about 5 x 8 ft. by 1 ft. deep. Larvae of Triturus present in fair numbers and single Rana boylii seen. For measurements of larvae see species account. Temp. of air 15.2°C, water 12.9°C. Weather clear and warm. During past week weather unusually hot and dry. During examination of stream bed marked one juvenile Triturus outside of study area. Hours 0930-1130 spent in area. 24 Sept. Calif., Contra Costa Co., Lafayette Reservoir I guess that permanence of water here may have different effect on larvae than transitory supply at Pinchurst
