20 Aug. Colorado, Morgan Co., Ft. Morgan to Larimer Co.
Estes Park. Park where we were met
by Mr. & Mrs. Cullers, vague relatives
of Bob's. We stayed at their small
cabin in the hills above town for
the night and enjoyed a good meal.
21 Aug. Colorado, Larimer Co., Estes Park to Grand Jackson
Co., Grand. Pulling away from Cullers
in mid-afternoon drove through Rocky
Mt. Nat'l Park. Dr. Tory - former
president of Colorado State College &
A. and M. - now retired, gave us
information on the region and introduced
us to a seemingly good botany work
by Preston, P. J. - Rocky Mt. Trees - 1940
Dr. Tory is a friend of Cullers and lives
next door. Preston's work put out by Dowa
State College Press in 1940 and treats
western North America with excellent
distribution maps. Another volume
he showed us was Forcue, E. J. - Estes
Park, Resort in the Rockies - 1949. Said
to be good on geology of region. Put out
by University Press in Dallas. At
or rather beyond crest of Trail Ridge
Road (U.S. 34) spent about one hour
in later afternoon looking for Hydromantes
at foot of large snow pack in cirque-like
