W. Rieman 1949 Journal 9 Aug. New Mexico, Eddy Co., Carlsbad to Lea Co., Hobbs Entire morning spent on animals and notes of past few days. In afternoon drove to Hobbs and camped for night near city dump E of town. 10 Aug New Mexico, Lea Co., Hobbs to De Baca Co., Ft. Sumner While I repaired hand brake during morning Bob collected in surrounding area by dump a Terrapene, C. sex lineatus(?), Holbrookia maculata and saw S. undul- at us. Ground cover of oak, yucca, Russian thistle, all about 12-14" high. The weather was clear and warm. Then drove N on State Hwy 18 to Clavis. On way N, at 12 mi. N Lovington noted DOR Rhinocichilus lecontei. Short grass prairie with scattered short mesquite on an essentially treeless plain. At Milne Sand noted night hawks sitting on fence posts in hot sun. Took flight when approached to within 12-15 ft. At 24.2 mi. N Milne Sand took large DOR Arizona at edge of road. In good condition. In Clavis accidentally discovered our first Phrynosoma cornutum in parkway strip by a vacant lot, in the middle of town. A nest of large maroon ants,
