6 Aug. New Mexico, Otero Co., Alamogordo to Chaves Co., Roswell.
Also stopped 15.4 mi. NE Green Tree in Lincoln Co., to look for Eunicea under large
embankment of boulders. Found none
but did Bob took small T. elegans vagans.
7 Aug. Roswell, Chaves Co., Roswell to Eddy Co., Carlsbad
Morning spent writing notes. Purely by chance
I kicked over an isolated piece of
fiber board and caught a single Eunicea
taylori under it. This extends the range
about 80 miles N and from the nature
of the terrain it may and probably does
extend much further. All of this area is
monotonously flat and alike. A C. perplexus
seen in morning also. On returning
in early afternoon to hunt for more
taylori could find none thought several
hours spent. Did take in similar
habitat at same locality (2 mi. W Roswell)
Holbrookia maculata and C. gularis and
found skin of huge Coluber (flagellum?).
In later afternoon, about 1500 drove
to Carlsbad and camped there for the
night. That evening heard strange sound
which on investigation proved to be
Acris gryllus singing from floating algae
in river. One taken by Stelbina (see his
notes). Also taken was one large Bufo
