U.S. Riner 1949 Journal 31 July New Mexico, Socorro Co., Socorro to Grant Co., N Mimbres. N Mimbres. Collected nothing during day. 1 Aug. New Mexico, Grant Co., N Mimbres to Silver City Objective today, the XSX Ranch, E. Fork Gila River. Drove N on State 61 to 905 Ranch turnoff and 10 miles beyond that Ranch took Copper Creek road to right. This road is extremely difficult and rough. It is not desirable to descend last mile of road into canyon bottom. This is recog- nizable as portion of roadway consisting of bedrock exposed in shallow staircase arrangement. It is also about 14 mi. from beginning of road. This is only road serving this portion of canyon. Collected in canyon cotton from about 1300-1500 during which period 2 T. angustirostris, several T. eques and R. pipiens taken. These forms taken just above and just below American Dron and Machine Works property. (Reason for that name unknown to me). This is locality at which thow records R. tarahumarae. Such could conceivably be in here yet the habitat is certainly not ideal. The canyon walls are largely in form of perpendicular pinnacles, the floor narrow and flat, the stream wide 50-75 ft. of steady, rapid flow and not broken up into pools
