Journal W. Riemer 1949 Arizona 26 July Rose Creek, Gila Co., Rose Creek to Maricopa Co., NW Phoenix. Rapids among boulders. Conifer and broadleaf trees shading stream. Much fractured rock above stream channel. A truly beautiful stream. Rose C. camp ground is also pleasant spot with out excessive insect life. Urosaurus, Sceloporus woodiatus, Crematodaphne sp? also present. Coluber taeniatus taken in hollow log on ground after being frightened off log on which running. Left camp ground 1430 hours and proceeded to U.S. Hwy 70 near Globe, then westward to Apache Jet. 10.2 mi NE Apache Jet, in late afternoon looked for Xantusia arizonica but could find none. Took Scaphiopus sp? larvae, Urosaurus, Crematodaphne tessellata. Returning to Hwy 70 continued to Aqua Fria River where camped for night. 27 July Arizona, Maricopa Co., NW Phoenix to Coconino Co., SSW Flagstaff. Wrote notes until 1000 hours, then drove to Coconino locality stopping only to collect at 6 and 1 mi. SW Yavell in Yavapai Co., First spot in desert habitat with mesquite, creosote, prickly pear and massive rock piles. Objective Xantusia arizonica. None found but following species either taken or recorded: H. texana,
