16 July Arizona, Santa Cruz Co., Peña Blanca Spring
after rains had stopped collected young
T. eques and S. clarkii in vicinity
of camp ground. After dark drove short
distance up road toward Ruby and picked
up several B. alvarius close to Springs.
Nothing seen farther up road. Below
Springs on road to Mogoles about 1 mi,
NE camp picked up H. anicolor, B. pustulosus,
M. carolinensis and D. regalis plus
larvae of amphibs in small walla
rock-walled pools in stream channel
parallelling roadway. Dark, no moon,
cool. More of amphibs heard calling.
On returning to camp saw three large
B. alvarius in shallow end of stock
through by reservoir. Took two.
17 July Arizona, Santa Cruz Co., Peña Blanca Spring
Morning spent at collection locality of
Hylo, Microhyla, Bufo, Diadophis to
write notes and R. Stebbins took pictures
of Hylo resting on rocks. Afternoon
spent writing notes on yesterdays catch.
Heavy rains occurred in afternoon
and during evening went out to tank
2 mi. W of Peña Blanca Springs. Here
collected R. pipiens and good series
Microhyla. Heard first Microhyla call.
