W. Riemer 1949 Journal 15 July Tucson to Mogales, Santa Cruz Co., Arizona hot day by Sykes. During evening Sykes drove party over "line" into Sonora for quick look around. Very reminiscent of Mexico I saw in '42 with Bogert. Shops full of curios and gift merchandise, most of population of 20,000 on streets talking and playing music. Great contrast with modern dress and "help yourself markets" on this side of line. In late evening 10-1130 p.m. hunted amphibians with help of Sykes and son Godfrey, NNW of their place, on Simon's Ranch. Got series of Rana pipiens in pond on Ranch. Has rained recently in area Sykes says (about 2 weeks, intermittently) but could hear no amphibians calling. Sykes family members claim toads calling recently from drainage ditch across S.P. tracks from Station. 16 July Peña Blanca Springs, Santa Cruz Co., Ariz. Drove to Springs in morning and collected about camp area between 1000-1200. Took S. charlisi, H. maculata, C. gularis, T. eques. Wrote notes in afternoon until 1800. Light rain barely enough to settle dust. Between 1800-1900
