14 July Ajo to Tucson, Pima Co., Arizona
excessively hot, scattered clouds. Arrived
at Tucson 1915 hours, Showered at
Y.M.C.A. (584) and ate in town. Returned
on road to Sells leaving Escuela at 2145.
Road had been recommended for night collecting
by John Hendrickson, former resident of Tucson,
at present M.N.Z. graduate student. Night
perfectly dark, traffic light, signs of
recent rains evident and people in Tucson
said had been raining lightly for several
days. Probably weather too warm. Only one
snake, DOR, Phyllorhynchus browni taken
at 1000, in 11.1 mi. driving. Camp made
at that point 11.1 mi. WSW Escuela.
15 July Tucson to Mogales, Santa Cruz Co., Arizona
Rained lightly several times at camp
last night. Entire morning spent writing
notes on yesterdays catch. In afternoon
shopped in Tucson and drove straight
through to Mogales. There picked up mail
and visited at Gilbert Sykes at Forest
Service Station 2 mi. NNW Mogales.
Stayed for night at station. Excellent
people the Sykes. During late afternoon
collected P. solare, Holbrookia maculata,
S. clarkii, U. ornatus, B. woodhousei on
grounds of Station. Said to be very
