14 July Ajo to Tucson, Pima Co., Arizona
Actually B. coquartes taken early this
morning. After sleeping and before
breakfast shot one Cnemidophorus torrelatus
and saw one Uta stansburiana near
camp SE of Rowood. Spent most of
morning completing notes. In afternoon
started toward Tucson on State Hwy 86,
Good road though dirt (under construction)
to Sella. At Ajo most conspicuous
plants - ironwood, palo verde, mesquite,
creosote, saguaro, ocotilla, cholla.
At Covered Wells about half way to Sella
same plants present with addition of
prickly pear with ripe fruits. Ocotilla
well leaved plus other indications of
recent rain or considerable permanent
water. All this area in Papago Indian
Reservation. Stopped 36.0 mi. E WSW
Escuela, Pima Co. to collect. Got Urosaurus
ornatus, Cnemidophorus torrelatus and gularis
Callisaurus draconoides and Holbrookia
maculata. For plants present see
last species this date. A little more
than one mile closer to Escuela picked
up half grown Gopherus agassizii
on pavement. Afternoon sun getting
low, temperature warm though not
