Yerma to 6.9 mi. WSW Gila Bend, Maricopa Co., Ariz. Set up camp for night at locality. During evening 2120-2230 slowly covered road once between camp and Gila Bend. Total 15.8 mi. 1 DOR and 1 LOR rodent seen, no lerp. Moon rose about 2215. Might warm, windless, ideal. Are animals aestivating? Why aren't they abroad.
13 July
6.9 mi. WSW Gila Bend, Maricopa Co., Ariz. Before breakfast took 2 Cnemidophorus tessellatus and one Collisaurus draconoides. Weather clear and rapidly warming at time. Later in day, 1100, animals appear to have retired, at least not apparent. Photos taken of both habitats. E. and R. Stebbins took U. graciosus in mesquite trees about camp. U. stansburiana present as well as a Sceloporus at base of mesquite. I moosed young Cnemidophorus at shady base of mesquite at 1150 while writing notes. Bright blue tail was quite a surprise.
