30 June
Bryce Canyon to Zion Nat'l Park, Washington Co., Utah
looking for Gerrhonotus c. utahensis. Got
first Phrynosoma douglasii but no luck
on Gerrhonotus though thick oak
groves with much leaf litter and
moist substrate looked ideal. Picked
up small T. elegans on trip back
to main highway. N Glendale
collected series of S. gracilis and
undulatus. Both appear to be
inhabiting same niche. (See gracilis
account this date). Skinks also
seen, and eggs of species (?) taken
but could not capture skinks and
identity uncertain. Arrived at Zion
about 1915 where camped for night.
1 July
Zion Park to St. George, Washington Co., Utah
Broke camp 1015. S D Springdale collected
for several hours, taking Bufo compactilis
series, many Bufo pennatatus (?) tadpoles
and eggs, Scaphiopous hammondii lawson,
Utla stansburiana, Crotaphytus collaris,
Crenidophorus (seen only), Sceloporus
undulatus and magister. Continued
in afternoon to Saint George where
washed clothes and wrote notes on
many of amphibians which had died in
intense heat of day. Camped for night out of
town.
