20 June Millard Co., to 2.0 mi. SW Joseph Sever Co.
looking further earlier in year when
dampen. Saw in canyon and captured
1 Thamnophis elegans, 1 Sceloporus
undulatus (?). S. graciosus also present.
Impressed, as have been over entire
state, by number and variety of ants.
Probably 3 out of 4 rocks or logs
turned with ants beneath. Could
this be reason why reptiles and amphibians
which like to hid under such objects
appear to be so rare. One of good
conifer stands 5.0 mi. SSE Scipio

Scipio in mountains to W. Continued
SW from Salina on U.S. 89 to locality
where camp set up for night. After
being in bed for most of an hour
R. Stebbins thought he heard an amphibian
calling in distance. Followed call
to pond and reservoir perhaps half
mile away. Captured 3 adult [illegible] of
Buefo woodhouseii, and 1 young R. pipiens.
Watched last [illegible] sing for several
minutes before capture, responded
beautifully to imitations made by
R. Stebbins. They must hear air borne
vibrations! A beautiful and impressive show!
