21 May Pinchurst, Contra Costa Co., Calif.
Taken. Eggs well developed and appear in several cases ready to hatch. Flycatchers in nest in upper area now with flight feathers in place but many areas of body still naked. Great Blue Heron in area
28 May 1515-1800 spent in area. Temperature at 1545; air 14.2, water 13.1. Stream level down again from slight rise last week. Weather clear and warm. Only 3 Triturus taken; 2 adult ? (1 new animal), 1 juvenile. In short tour downstream no Triturus seen though many suitable pools present. Hatching of egg clusters appears imminent. Thus far only few from one cluster appear to have escaped. Young flycatcher gone but parent still concerned over approach to nest. Many small fish appearing in stream. Predators on young larvae
04 Jun. 1230-1500 spent in area. Weather: hot and clear, as for preceding day as well. Temp. at 1245: air 29.8, water 16.4°C. Stream down considerably. Very few spots
