W. Riemer 1949 Journal 23 Apr. Pinchurst, Contra Costa Co., Calif. on 22 Feb. This suggests 78 may remain for several months in water in breeding season or may leave and return. 88 taken under wood on land may represent return to terrestrial habitat. Noted that juveniles first appearing in numbers now. All Triturus taken from lower area except 3 juveniles. All sexual pigments on soles, thighs, etc., gone on 78. Dorsum becoming darker and tail fin reduced. Most egg clusters developing to elongate stage but no eyes or other pigment yet appeared. 1 Diadophis amabilis, DOR, near road junction above lower area. Apr.-1 May San Luis Obispo Co., Calif. Marjorie and Wade Fox, Keith Murray, wife and I left Berkeley 1700 29 Apr. Drove to Coolinga via Hollister arriving 2400. No reptiles on road though moon absent and not too? cold. 30 Apr. collected ① Estrella R., Shandon; ② Salinas R., Paso Robles; ③ also Salinas R. on Santa Margarita - Paso road. ① Hyla and R. catesbiana common.
