W. Riemer 1949 Journal 26 Mar. Pinehurst, Contra Costa Co., Calif. 1200-1730 in area. Weather: clear and sunny. Temp. at 1255: air 14.8°; water 10.2°. Stream level down and murky only in deeper pools. Current very swift and but few suitable spots in upper area seen. Of 4 animals, 2 new and two returns. Further mapping in lower area completed carried out. Triturus not common even in open areas below study plot. 28 Mar. M.V. Z. One or more of ♀♀ taken at Tilden 25 Mar. laid eggs in aquarium during weekend and this morning. Eggs collected at Tilden (except cluster which was exposed in air) developing. All eggs in clusters though animals in that region of Tilden suspected of being hybrids of torosus and granulosus. 29 Mar. ♀ implanted with hypophysis 25 Mar., laid eggs in several broken clusters this date.
