W. Reiner 1949 Journal 3 Feb. Pinchard, Contra Costa Co., Calif. below road fork, in better looking area. 5 Feb. Large portion 1 day spent mapping area in and about Stebbins' and Hendrickson's study areas, however all efforts unsuccessful because of non-functioning compass. Two Triturus marked in Stebbins' area. Had rained heavily on 4 Feb., so that stream deep, muddy and turbulent. No possibility that eggs could be present and survive. No Triturus seen near stream though many DOR's on road. 12 Feb. With good compass, portion of area mapped at 30 ft. to the inch. Road alignment used as base. Extremely cold. Ice in rain gauge. Stream not checked for Triturus since thought to be too cold, muddy and turbulent yet. 19 Feb. Mapping continued, most of eastern 300 ft. 1 area finished on road side of stream. Weather during past week warmer than usual this season. At 1630 at air temp. 6 in. above ground 10.7°; water in
