Berkeley, Alameda Co, Calif.
Afternoon spend in Seelopower
study area. Weather cool and
partially cloudy. Winds moderate.
At least two Turkey Vultures
noted. Species abundant only
this year?, or only this season?,
or are they more common than
listed by Miller and Pitelka in
Campus Bird list. Oregon Junco
nest noted last time in this
area, deserted.
22 May Wildcat Canyon Tilden Park, Contra Costa
Co, Calif. Observations of 113
Zoology class begun 0830. Weather:
sunny, clear, warm becoming hot
toward noon. Great number of
birds singing throughout morning.
Almost all observation along
stream though not within riparian
zone. Following species noted:
Eucalyptus - House Wren, Hazeli Bunting,
Black-headed Grosbeak (?); oak - Grosbeak,
House Wren, Swainson Thrush, Brown
Towhee, Western Tanager, Cedar Wax
wing; chaparral - Swainson Thrush,
Song Sparrow; weed covered open
areas - Hazeli Bunting, Song Sparrow;
riparian willow - American Gold-
finch, Black Phoebe. Apparently
some migration still going on
