Journal 32. 8 May 6.5 mi SSW Monticello, Soda Creek, Napa Co., Calif. About 0930, morning of 9th Captured 2 Thamnophis o. atratus ("orange stripe" - W. Fox) sunning on flood debris, 1 Crotalus viridis oreganus near water. Weather: cool but rapidly warming, sunny, clear. Situation: riparian chaparral. Birds extremely abundant and situation well suited for bird watching. 9 May Pope Creek, 5.7 mi. NW Monticello, Napa Co., Calif. Two hours search gave one large Thamnophis, one Coluber lateralis, one Gerrhonotus multicinctus, one Eunectes skiltonianus. Weather and situation same as above location though warmer. 9 May 2 mi. SE Knoxville, Eticura Creek, Napa Co., Calif. 1 Clemmys marmorata, I many present, taken. Mo Thamnophis. Situation: oak and grassland. Weather: cool, cloudy. 9 May 7 mi. SE Knoxville, Eticura Creek, Napa Co., Calif. No Thamnophis in 2 hours search. No Clemmys seen in that period either though no real difference in situation detected. Weather: same as above. Returned home on Calif. #28, #37 #29 and U.S. #40. Returned about 1800 12 May Berkeley Hills, Alameda Co., Calif. 0830 to 1545 spent in Scolopous study area.
