Journal 31. 8 May Putah Creek, 6 mi N Dixon (Solano Co.) Yolo Co., Calif. Gerrhonotus crushed and spoiled during remainder of trip; Thamnophis died during night and therefore destroyed. Gopher was struggling thru grasses when found at 9:57 P. Apparently injured though possibly diseased. Palace 1 more golden-brown than East Bay form. 8 May Putah Creek, near junction of Mapa, Yolo and Solano Cos., Calif. Search revealed no Thamnophis. Huge rocks at streams edge in one spot, used by hundreds of Cliff and Barn Swallows. Many nests within easy reach though most attached so as to be above water. Obviously a factor for selective adaptation? Appeared to be excellent place for study of these species. Many nests still under construction. Continued on Calif. #28 and Soda Creek Rd. 6.5 mi. SSW Monticello, Soda Creek, Mapa Co., Calif. Camped overnight at this spot. In evening captured 2 Rana b. boylii, 1 Hyla regilla, 6 Triturus torosus. 2 Triturus when captured in amplexus. The 2 Rana found in amplexus next day on trip home. Slapping water by movement I can apparently did not disturb them.
