Situation: marshy, cattail stream bed three open cultivated fields. Weather: cool, clear, sunny. All three specimens under debris and sluggish. 20 minutes spent in area. Continued to 8May Mitchell Canyon, near Clayton, Contra Costa Co., Calif. 0945-1030 Search revealed no Thamnophis. 1 Gerhantus m. multicarinatus taken. Weather: cool, clear, sunny. Situation: riparian willow principally. Object of this and following daytrip to collect possible intergrading forms of Thamnophis. 8May Antioch Toll Bridge, Calif. #24, Contra Costa Co., Calif. Kirker Para Road to Antioch and Calif. #24 to Bridge. About 1 hour search along edge levee disclosed no snakes. Sceloprus and Gerhantus occasional. Situation: tules, cattails and sedges, Thamnophis igica expected. Weather: cool, clear, sunny. Marsh Wrens, Song Sparrows common. Cliff Swallows abundant, Barn Swallows occasional. Nest under Bridge. 8May 0.5 mi. E. Denveton, Solano Co., Calif. Calif. #24 and #12 to above location.
