Journal 28. J. Riemer 1948 5 May Berkeley Hills, Alameda Co., Calif. Entire day spent plotting movements of Sceloporus in study area. Began 0825, quit 1630. Special attention paid to one large of which moved over most of study area while all others tended to stay close to one spot. Weather: clear, bright, sunny, warm, no clouds, no breeze until 1500 when light intermittent ones arose. Birds singing and calling all day in contrast to last day in area. Species noted: Micrurus feeding on surface throughout day; Odocoileus passed area 1045; Turkey Vulture seen twice during morning shade perched atop same tree, observed on 30 Apr. 1948 flying off again when assailed by small birds; Purple Finches calling from conifers; Wrentits from chaparral; Pine Siskins, 1355, circling out from conifers. "Orange stripe" Thamnophis ordinoides stratus taken in study area. 8 May 1 mi. WNW Concord, Walnut Creek, Contra Costa Co., Calif. Left Albany by car 0800. Present Wade & Marjory Fox, wife and self. Proceeded on N.S. 40 and Calif. 4 to vicinity Concord. 0915 at above location captured 1 Sceloporus o. occidentalis, 1 Pittophis s. catherifer, 1 Thamnophis sitalis
