Tennis courts at N end of park
0830. Proceeded S to ball diamond
to observe in riparian willow
thicket. Entire stream bed
overgrown with wide belt of
willows including some small,
low elderberry. Observed in
one spot during 4 hours: Towhee,
California Jay, Stellar Jay,
Warbling and Hutton's Vireo,
Pileolated Warbler, Downy Wood-
pecker, Anna Hummingbird,
Grosbeak, Song Sparrow, American
Goldfinch, Black Phoebe. Jay
feeding "robins-fashion" on ball
diamond lawn. Moving N along
road again noted Turkey Vulture
soaring overhead. Also Grosbeak
flying overhead above willow
thicket. In willow thicket (riparian)
above Jewel Lake Wren-tits observed.
At Jewel Lake Redwing Blackbird
nesting behavior studied. American
Goldfinch, Western Tanager, Coot,
Bullock Oriole also seen. Weather
warm, clear, sunny entire
morning the warmer toward
noon. Breezes light. Dismissed
at 1200.
