J. Riemer 1948 Journal 15. 19 Mar. Albany, Alameda County, Calif. spend in watching birds in vicinity of Codornices village in Albany. Species seen: Killdeer, meadowlark, Black-crowned Heron, American Egret. 20 Mar. Lake Merritt, Oakland, Alameda Co., Calif. Began observations of water fowl at duck feeding station 0845. Weather: clear, slightly cold, light wind, sun brightly shining and comfortably warm out of wind. Identified most of fowl observed. Spend 1½ hours in detailed observation of Coot. Extremely large number of birds present. Coots appeared most numerous with Mallards and Pintails running close second. Bald pates and Canvasbacks common. Sexual behavior prominent, seen in Mallards, Pintails, and pigeons. Species recorded: 1. Snowy Egret 2. Canada Goose 3. White-fronted Goose 4. Snow Goose 5. Ross Goose 6. Mallard 7. Baldpate 8. Pintail 9. Canvasback 10. Lesser Scaup 11. Coot 12. Glaucous-winged Gull
