14 Sept.'47 Berkeley Hills, Alameda Co., Calif.
My wife and I walking directly east
in prolongation of Derby Ave
observed and identified the following
birds in the vicinity of the water-
tank. California quail ♀ ♂;
Oregon juncos, seemingly all ♀ or
immature; Brown towhee. On
the knoll above the CSD insigna
a single California Woodpecker (?)
and several California Jays (?)
were seen. Just over the ridge
in a grove of pines a ♂ Oregon
juncos and several nuthatch-or
creeper-like birds were observed.
Returning along the road continuing
on past the upper end of
Panoramic Way, a Greenback
Goldfinch was identified while
it was eating thistle seeds.
28' Feb.'48 Strawberry Canyon, U.C. Campus, Berkeley
Alameda Co., Calif.
As part of 113 Zoology class, left
parking area N of Stadium. Proceeded
on foot up Canyon. Note was made,
in a running discourse, by Dr.
S. Benson, of the diversified types
of vegetation and micro-climates ?
