W. Riemer 1947 Journal 5. Lassen Volcanic National Park, Calif. 11Aug. was procured 200 yds. E. Shingletown Station, Shasta Co. 12Aug Beginning at 0730 the trip home was begun. Observed on the way were Rainbow (?) trout in Emerald Lake, a natural aquarium and fish preserve in Lassen Park, and numerous egrets in the rice paddies north of Marysville, Calif. The trip ended in Canyon at 1830. Grounds of Fleishacker Zoo, San Francisco, San Francisco Co., Calif. 24Aug. Area was reached by transbay train and "L" car. At one of the numerous ponds containing a variety of waterfowl, mallards of both sexes, Anas p. platyrhynchos were observed. Distinguishing feature of male: up-curved tail feathers; of female: white borders to each side of speculum (metallic- colored wing patch). Costs Fulica americana were also observed.
