9 Aug. The afternoon was spent about
Subway Caves, Shasta Co., and
Old Station, Shasta Co.
A superficial search for
Charina bottae was made at
the entrance of Subway Caves
in the damp sand. One
was actually taken in a similar
situation in the caves by
R. Stellbins several years
previous. Ranger Joe Burgess
stated that a Thamnophis
and a Crotalus were taken
in the caves recently. No
Charina were obtained but a
Hyla regilla was taken perhaps
70 feet from the entrance. It
was resting on the damp rocky
lava floor in a spot very dimly
lite.
A short search thru the man-
ganita surrounding the entrance
to the caves produced 5 Sceloporus
o. occidentalis and 1 Sceloporus
graciosus gracilis both in
