Hassen National Park, Calif. cont. 6 Aug. spend in capturing and marking a population of Scleropous gracilis in a study area parallelling the trail leading from the Park Museum to the ranger's quarters. It is a procedure which has been followed at intervals by Stelbins for about five years in an attempt to discover the habitat range of individuals of the species, long- ivity and whatever less shows up. Procedure consists of noosing a specimen, making any pertinent notes, clipping the toes in a given formula so that the animal may be recognized at a later date, marking the animal with colored pencil, so that it may be recognized during the next few days and thereby eliminate recapturing it, and lastly spotting the capture point on a detail map of the area. 7 Aug.
