way near Blyn which is located by Sequim Bay.
The turnoff, dirt road is near the Sequin Bay State Park,
The dirt road was followed for about five miles to the
point where the Dungeness River enters the Greywolf River
at an elevation of about 800 ft. Made camp and set out
60 snap traps and 10 skyler traps.
May 8 Checked traps in the morning and removed four
Peromyscus, one Sorex and one Microtus. When
checking the traps at about three o'clock one
Clathronomys was caught. 46 more snap traps were
put out. While setting these traps 2 small toads
and one tree frog were seen near the shore of the
stream - one toad was collected. A very strong
skunk odor has been present at and about our
camp site - Two steel traps have been placed
out to try and catch the skunk.
May 9 When checking the traps this morning a toad had been
caught in one of them - this toad was kept. Also caught
were four more Peromyscus and one shrew. All
of the animals caught were taken in the traps that
had been placed out yesterday, not the traps that
were left out from the day before. Walnuts are
being used for bait. The skyler traps that had been set
previously were baited with sandrine and oats.
The traps out tonight are baited with the carcasses
of other trapped animals. Weather has been fine,
so far.
