E.M.Brock 1956 Journal May 4 Tacoma, Pierce Co., Washington storms. Drive up highway 99 through Woodland, Kelso, Chehalis, Centralia to Olympic and Tacoma to stay at Murray Johnsons house for the night. May 5 Set out 12 gopher traps at 2 mis. S Roy in Pierce Co. while at this locality two garter snakes were taken - one a yellow and black coloration, the other a greenish and black coloration. Still staying at Johnsons place at 105 Tacoma St., Tacoma. May 6 Went out to retrieve the traps set out yesterday and no gophers had been caught. Dr. Benson, though, did catch three - two females and one male. The location was the large meadow (or prairie) at the E. K. Murray Ranch 2 mi. S of Roy, Pierce Co. In afternoon Johnsons took Dr. Benson and 2 to the Puget Sound Museum where we looked at the specimens in the collection. It is a rather disorganized collection consisting of about 6000 specimens. Then we went over to Alex Walker's sons home. He had just complete his thesis on subspecies of Gophers. May 7.
