±10 mi. S of Orick, Humboldt Co., Calif.
Left Berkeley this morning to go with S. B. Benson
To the States of Oregon and Washington. We left
at 9:00 AM in Bensen's jeep station wagon and
towing a two-wheel trailer. Went up highway 101
through Hopland, Laytonville, Piercy and
Fortuna. Slept in the station wagon at about
±10 mi. S of Orick near Stone Lagoon.
May 3
4.2 mi. S Molalla, Clackamas Co., Oregon
Left Stone Lagoon and went through Crescent
City, Calif. and collected one Ancylis and
one Batrachoeops at 2.6 mi. NE from Crescent
City, Del Norte Co. This was along highway 199.
Went through Gasquet and over Hazel Summit,
and to Grant Pass, Oregon. From there
through Roseburg, Eugene, Albany, Salem,
to Silverton to Molalla where we tried to
get some Phenacomya but all nuts seemed to
be squirrel nuts. Slept in car parked in a
gravel pit 4.2 mi. S of Molalla.
May 4
Tacoma, Pierce Co., Washington
Left Molalla and went to Portland, Oregon
to get collecting permits to collect in Oregon or
way back from Washington. From Portland drove
along Columbia River to Cascade Locks.
Looked for possible pocket gopher sites, crossed
bridge into Washington and drove towards
Vancouver. On way went through heavy rain
