Between Zacaapan and Puerta del Rio, Sinaloa, Mexico
This day was the first day of our four day
trip into the mangroves. Stayed at the beach
of a village located here among the
many islands. The "natives" were very
friendly and although we could not speak
with them they offered us a large squash
and put it into the fire for use

Kept moving through the mangroves
and up the channel all day saw nearly
all the birds on the list again. Shot and
prepared a flycatcher. We shot 3 scamps,
one quail and 2 doves for dinner
After getting up in the morning, having
oatmeal and squash for breakfast we
got in the canoe and went about ± three
miles more up (or down) the channel, made
camp and explored there. I shot a
vermillion flycatcher and an oriole.

The last night camp was right by the channel
and the number of fish in the channel must
be phenomenal. The fish jumping (probably being
chased by large fish) is enough to keep one
awake. Bill Maker claims he saw porpoises
in the stream this morning. During the daytime
fish are always jumping. Whole schools
of fish can be seen making a wake in
the water. Camp was broken about 11:00PM
