E.M. Brock 1955 Journal Dec. 18 Huanacastle ± 2 mi. SW Palmar, Sinaloa, Mexico Dog (beater) also rode on the back load. We went through Los Angeles (much fog) and to Tucson Arizona and Nogales. Driving both day and night on a rotation system we reached Nogales and the border at about 7:30 on Saturday the 17th. It was the biggest force getting across the border. In order not to have to unload the car and avoid guns and "ammo" we gave the gentleman at the border two dollars and he put a stamp on one suitcase and a chalk X on a duffle bag and we went through. Apparently this is quite a usual routine. Nothing was said about the dog and no one seemed to notice him. After leaving the border and following highway 15 along the coast (with destination Magellan in mind) we were stopped three more times within a hundred miles to show tourist cards and car permits. Cattle, burros, and horses wander all over the roads and form a hazard especially for right driving. Also people mainly on foot, some on burros and many on bicycles are on the streets. These people may be found walking along the road many miles from any town. Reaching Magellan at about 5:00 PM on the 18th of December, we went through on to Escuinapa and to Jiacapan
