M. Brock 1954 Journal traps set. Found a dead grey squirrel on road on trip up to Inverness. Found along road in Samuel P. Taylor Park Section in Marin Co. Set out 30 snap traps 2 miles west of Inverness at 35±ft elevation. Also checked ±50 traps set out previous day in same location by Dr.Benison Caught about 5 shrews and 2 meadow mice. Put up skin of one woodrat. Drove to Russian River Area in Redwood and Daylas for area looking for Red tree mice, Phaenacomys, At first location nest was taken apart and one tree mouse came slowly walking down the tree stumps, was easily caught and placed in a sack. At second location a large nest was torn apart revealing 2 very young individuals (eyes not open yet) and three adult mice. Nest had a base of mud and branches but was composed mainly of pellets and the residuum of douglas fir needles which had been eaten. Nests were usually placed at base of branches in thickly leaved trees Oct 31 Rechecked traps (steel) 3 miles west of Inverness and recovered one more woodrat and a live mountain beaver, Aplodontia. Steel traps were set in the burrows of the mountain beaver. March 12 1955 Saghen Creek basin Nevada Co.±6400 ft 3 mi NW Hobart Mills. Found a woodrat
