E.M. Brock 1956 Journal May 15 Elwah R. 3/4 mi, SW Olympic Highway Bridge (Sec 33 T30N, R7W) Clallam Co. Washington River, After crossing over the Bridge and following the road for about a mile we turned left on a dirt road to go to Mr Jordan's residence, who was supposed to have bats (Myotis keeni) in his attic according to Murray Johnsons We could not find a one. We are now camped about 2 miles from Jordans home May 16 Raft Creek Of the 42 traps placed out last night by the Elwah River, two had Peronyseus in them and one a Zapus. After leaving the Elwah we started going West slowly while looking for old buildings which might possibly have bats; many houses were investigated but no bats were found. At one house The man told us of an abandoned railroad tunnel by Lake Crescent, We drove to it, the location. Being about one mile South of the outlet of Jype Creek from Lake Crescent. The tunnel was very large and long and also very moist. No bats were present. Two salamanders were found near this locality. We continued on highway 101, the Olympic highway, to Sol Duc, Saypho, Beaver, Callwah R., Quets and into Grays Harbor County where we are now camped by the highway next to Raft Creek. Fifty snap traps have been set out.
