May 10
Dungeness Fish Hatchery ± 500 ft, 4 mi. SSW Sequim, Clallam Co., Washington.
Hatchery's cold room for future use. A line of 42 traps was set out.
May 11
The only things caught in last night's traps were one Zapus and one Peromyscus. The name of the helper at the hatchery who occupies the quarters in the hatchery building near the "bat attic" is Kieth Dinton (wife + 2 children). During a walk around the campsite a pair of Harlequin ducks were seen swimming in Canyon Creek which flows into the Dungeness. The same trap line was left out for tomorrow.
May 12
Two Sorex, one Microtus and one Peromyscus were taken in last night's traps; these traps were left gate re-baited and left. Three mole traps were set, two steel traps, five skyler traps and 23 snow snap traps.
May 13
A marsh shrew was taken in one trap which had been placed on top of a mossy log located among many alder trees and nettle plants. Also caught were two shrews, two Peromyscus and one Microtus. It took until about 2:00 to finish preparing all these specimens when we took the lots from the cold room to prepare as Specimens. All the lots appeared to be dead when they were removed from the cold room — none of them made the slightest movement. Upon removing the lots to the outside and combing and lining them up on the ground, we noticed
